I never realized how hard it would be to be vegan! A single month is one thing, but I have so much respect for the people who are vegan for their whole lives. It’s hard when you’re surrounded by animal products every where you go. Eating at a restaurant with friends or family is the most difficult, I’d say. It’s hard to find items on the menu that don’t have animal products, whether it’s meat, cheese or sauce with lactose in it. This month has definitely been a challenge so far and we’re only 10 days in!
Here’s to determination!
Out with the old and in with the new!
I love the idea of starting fresh and moving forward to improve oneself. Honestly, change is something that could happen on a Monday, Wednesday or at 3:00 on a Friday. No one has to wait for a specific moment to allow change for the better into their lives, but I really like the New Year and thinking about what I can do to better my health for the upcoming year!
For a while I couldn’t think of what to do to change. One thing I will try harder at, is writing more blog posts! I fell of the face of the Earth with that one, but I will be diligent in writing posts from now on.
Today I watched the documentary, “Vegucated”.
(Vegan is where you don’t eat/wear meat or anything produced by animals)
It’s about three people who attempt to be vegan for 6 weeks, with the help of Marisa Wolfson. I was oblivious to how animals are treated and the cruelty that is involved to the animals raised to be butchered, before they land on my plate. I also never looked at the difference in health of people in Asia compared to Canada and the U.S. and related it to what they consume on a daily basis compared to what we do. The difference is that we consume more meat and less fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and legumes.
My eyes have been opened and so for 2013 it’s my goal to try and become a Vegan. I’m excited to see the changes in my body and health in general, and will keep updates on my blog as well! I look forward to this adventure with the help of my already Vegan friend, Miranda :)
Thanksgiving is coming, so what are you thankful for?
